C. 28782 Columbus Council Special Meeting On Police Hiring The Columbus Town Council has called a special meeting for Monday morning at 9 to discuss applicants for the position of police officer. Columbus now has two police officers and one auxiliary offi cer. The 1991-92 budget was passed with an allocation for an additional officer to improve police protection and coverage in the town. Passes CPA Exam Sheila Rebecca Painter of Tryon has passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination and was approved for licensure as a CPA Aug. 19. The N.C. State Board of CPA Examiners announced the approval recently. Trinity Plans Special Fellowship The congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church is planning a special evening of food, fun and fellowship on Thursday, August 29 at Morgan Center, Seventh Day Adventist Church, on Highway 108 in Lynn. The occasion for the special festivi ties is the surprise visit of Les and Sharla Winkler and their two children. Mr. Winkler is a seminary student currently (Continued On Back Page) FRIDAY, AUGUST 23,1991 Hahn Reunion The non-stop weekend ccle- Ibration of Lili and Peter Halin's 50th wedding anniversary began Wednesday, Aug. 14. Family members flew in from New York, New Jersey, Pal Alto, Berkeley, London and Paris. They crowded into the Hahn home for a Friday night south ern French style catered buffet. On Saturday they filled the Stone Hedge to capacity for a culinary feast and a generous helping of "roasting" the cele brants. On the photo is "The Happy Couple", dolls made by niece Monique from Paris. —Community Reporter New Arrival A son was born Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1991 to Gerald and Melissa Tary of Mill Spring at Park Ridge Hospital. 20f Per 1 op\ Habitat Auction Moves Location To Tryon Site As preparations for the third annual Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity auction continue, good news was reported by Bud Carson, chairman of the 1991 event. This year's auction is scheduled for October 19. The good news is the location of this year's sale. The Robert Capozzi Family, owner of Side Street Pizza and recent pur chasers of the building formerly occupied by Years Ago Antiques, has generously donated use of the building for the October auction. The Capozzis plan to open a first-class Italian restaurant on the site next year. Carson expressed delight with the opportunity to use the Capozzi building, saying: "Not only will we have more space for the auction and adequate parking, but the central location in Tryon is super and will vir tually guarantee the best Habitat auction yet." Rick Amendola will again donate his professional services as auctioneer. In other preparations for the auction a general canvas com mittee of 30 or more volunteers has been enlisted to call on local businesses, factories and professional offices for contri butions to this annual project Also, Chuck Doster, Habitat Resale Store manager has already set aside valuable items- such as, antiques, furniture’ appliances and other household (Continued On Back Page)
